Wondered Wednesday: GEM WIS’ Youssef

Youssef has a busy weekly schedule filled with school and sports.

But he always finds time to knuckle down and focus on his karate, where he is an exceptional talent.

The GEMS Wellington International School student started the year by winning gold at His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Karate Championship.

It is the fourth first place finish for eight year-old Youssef in his karate tournaments and despite being so young he already has grand plans.

Having started karate three years ago, Youssef is eager to reach his black belt at a young age and go on to compete in international tournaments.

Doing two karate trainings at school and privately each week, Youssef also refines his sporting skills when a part of the school’s swim and football squads.

As one of the youngest players to win the Emirates National Karate Championship in the past, he has star footballer Mo Salah as his idol, inspired by the Egyptian’s skills coupled with his modesty.
