Natural Speed: Leon Toniutto Sets the Track Ablaze After Dominant DASSA Campaign
In youth sports, some athletes are made, while others simply have it in their DNA. For Leon Toniutto, a Year 5 student at Kent College, it seems to be the latter.
Leon has been a multi-sport enthusiast since age five, excelling in rugby, swimming, and skiing. However, over the past two years, his explosive speed has transformed him from a versatile athlete into one of the most exciting sprinting prospects in the UAE.
The DASSA Double
Leon’s rise has been marked by a relentless collection of gold medals. After a winning performance at the DASSA Finals last year, he returned this season to confirm his dominance. Competing in the 80m and 150m events, the result was the same: two entries, two gold medals.
His ease on the track has caught the attention of specialists across the region. Leon is currently the fastest boy in his age group, boasting staggering personal bests for a 10-year-old:
- 100m: 12.74
- 200m: 23.01
The Transition to Elite Training
Following his latest DASSA achievements, Leon has taken the next step in his athletic journey. Encouraged by coaches who recognized his elite potential, he has officially joined Ultimate Athletics.
This move marks a shift from school-level dominance to club-level refinement. Under the guidance of specialist sprint coaches, Leon is now focusing on the technical nuances that could take his “natural” speed to a professional level.
A Future Without Limits
While Leon continues to ride his bike everywhere and stay active across multiple sports, his future as a sprinter is impossible to ignore. As his mother, Francesca, notes: “Only time will tell how far he can go, but the signs are certainly very exciting.”
For now, Leon Toniutto is the boy to catch. But based on his recent times, that is proving to be a very difficult task.
