Back in the Blue: How Safa Community School and Partners Revived DASSA Secondary Aquathlon
There was far more than just a podium place at stake in Dubai this week. For the first time in Term 3, the sights and sounds of competitive school sport returned to the emirate. Following an extended hiatus forced by recent regional closures, the DASSA network officially roared back to life with the highly anticipated DASSA Secondary Aquathlon.
The atmosphere inside the iconic Hamdan Sports Complex was electric. It was a poignant reminder of what sport means to the youth of the UAE. Beyond the points and racing metrics, this event was a celebration of community, resilience, and the simple joy of student-athletes being back where they belong: pushing their physical limits on the world stage.
The Team Behind the Logistics
Bringing an entire school sporting ecosystem back online requires immense coordination. The bulk of that credit goes to Matt Journeaux, Director of Sport at Safa Community School (SCS).
Working tirelessly behind the scenes alongside the expert event team at SuperSports UAE, Journeaux successfully got this premier multi-sport event off the ground. The combination of Journeaux’s school coordination and SuperSports’ professional race management ensured a safe, seamless, and elite competitive environment for hundreds of returning athletes.

The Elite Performers: Timing is Everything
While the return to action was a victory for the community, the standard in the water and on the road remained incredibly sharp. Dubai’s powerhouse swimming and endurance schools showed zero signs of rust after the layout period.
The official timing data revealed a masterclass in endurance, with several institutions dominating the top slots:
- Dubai College (DC): Showcased staggering depth across the senior divisions, capturing crucial low-point scores to solidify their place at the top of the overall school leaderboards.
- JESS Arabian Ranches: Proved their pedigree in multi-sport formats, commanding multiple podium spots thanks to lightning-fast transitions in the U14 and U16 tiers.
- Dubai English Speaking College (DESC): Brought their signature intensity to the road, closing down margins in the run leg to secure vital points across both boys’ and girls’ categories.
The Full Ledger: To check individual split times, transition data, and comprehensive school placement charts, the official event files are now available.
