Debut, Dreams, and Dominance: The Twin Sisters Who Led DBS Jumeirah to BSME Glory

When DBS Jumeira (DBSJ) touched down in Muscat for their first-ever BSME U11 Games, they weren’t just there to participate—they were there to make history. At the heart of that journey were twin sisters Isabella (Overall Girls Captain) & Sophie (Netball Captain).

From the “clink” of medals in the airport to the adrenaline of the Magic Planet coaster, the sisters shared their personal diaries with Gulf Youth Sport to give us an inside look at a weekend that redefined DBSJ sport.

The Arrival: “Matching Hoodies and Big Dreams”

The journey began at the airport, a sea of matching BSME hoodies and rucksacks. “The whole traveling experience was really good! It was so much fun going about the airport with my friends,” says Sophie. Isabella adds, “I was so happy to be representing my school with the sports I love most.”

Day 1: Swimming & Football – The Gold Rush

The nerves were high as the team arrived at the “intimidatingly large” venue, but those nerves quickly turned into speed.

  • Isabella: “My freestyle relay went really well—1st place thanks to my great team. It felt so good getting cheered on by our teachers and parents.”
  • Sophie: “As soon as I started swimming, the nerves disappeared. I just went as fast as I could. We came first!”

On the pitch, the dominance continued. The girls went undefeated in football, culminating in an electric final. “When the whistle blew, we all ran to each other, jumping and hugging,” recalls Sophie. “We won the title and the trophy. It’s the moment we still speak about today,” says Isabella.

Day 2: Netball – Leadership Under Heat

As Netball Captain, Sophie had to lead her team through the “harsh heat” and the absence of their regular coach. Despite the exhaustion of back-to-back matches, the DBSJ spirit held firm. “Some of the girls were upset [after finishing 4th], but I told them everything was okay because it was our first ever attempt and we still did really well,” Sophie explains. Isabella noted the parental support: “The PE department and parents made sure we stayed well hydrated.”

Day 3: Athletics – The Pink Glitter Power

The final day was all about individual grit and team relays, with the girls sporting pink glitter on their faces to match as a team. Sophie secured 3rd in a nail-biting 600m and 4th in High Jump (clearing 1m), while Isabella secured 2nd place in all three of her events (300m, Triple Jump, and Relay).

“I was so proud at the award ceremony when the girls’ athletics team got called up for first place. I actually couldn’t believe it,” says Isabella.

The Celebration: Pizzas & Magic Planet

Before the flight home, the teachers surprised the team with a trip to the mall. “The teachers made an executive decision to go to the Mall as a treat. My twin sister, a friend, and I got pizza and potato wedges,” Sophie laughs. “Then we went to Magic Planet. There was a roller coaster… we started trying to get as many tickets as we could!”

The Homecoming

Walking through the airport on the way back to Dubai, the “clinking” of trophies and medals told the story of a successful debut. “Overall, it was such an amazing experience,” Sophie concludes. “I would do it a thousand times again.” For Isabella, the pride was personal: “I felt so proud walking through the airport with the trophy as the overall captain. I can’t explain how much pride I felt.”
