Brighton College Al Ain Win World Schools Golf Championship

A number of players from Gulf schools last week took part in the prestigious World Schools Golf Championship in Scotland, with Brighton College Al Ain scooping the overall team prize!

Brighton College Al Ain, Brighton College Dubai, GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis, and JESS Dubai were all represented at the event, with golfers (both young and not-so-young) putting in some incredible performances.

They were joined by golfers from 18 schools in 15 different countries in representing themselves, their school, and their country on the world stage.

Golfers were split into Junior, Senior, and Teacher categories, with numerous awards up for grabs across the week.

After a Welcome Ceremony in Edinburgh on Sunday evening, the action got underway on Monday at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club – the sixth oldest club in the world.

Then Tuesday saw the action move to The Musselburgh Golf Club, with the field split into a double shotgun start on both days.

The third and final round on Wednesday took place in St Andrews – one of the world’s most famous golfing towns – with Juniors and Teachers taking on Fairmont’s Torrance Course and Seniors taking on Kittocks Course.

Live stream cameras and professional commentators kept audiences up-to-date with all the action from afar, with featured holes allowing golfers the opportunity to show what they can do to a global audience.

Golfers from Gulf schools performed incredibly well over the three rounds as they contended with typically changeable Scottish weather – a far-cry from what they’ll be used to back home.
