Start them young. Tekkers Academy Bahrain is embodying this saying with its youngest members just 18 months old and part of the Tekker Tots program. From there the Academy coaches boys and girls of all ages, all the way up to an adult ladies team.
Director of football Deena Rahman said the academy looked to integrate some new methods into its training this term, after re-evaluating during the COVID-19 pause.
“We are most looking forward to a bit of normality, and seeing children out playing sport and having fun. This period has given us time to also reflect on how we as a coaching team can help our players progress even further and we are excited to get some of our new initiatives incorporated into our programs,” she said.
The team at Tekkers Academy still found a way to hand out trophies despite not being able to compete. Rahman said the promise of silverware motivated youngsters who took to daily challenges with the right spirit.
“The lockdown programmes were a series of challenges, competitions and Zoom sessions. One thing every day, six days a week! Many players participated and a number excelled and they were the ones who got the awards. Parents and players were delighted to be doing something, and the whole lockdown program was free to every Tekkers member,” she said.
“The summer has been long and boring for many. While we are operating under restrictions currently, the players who have returned are very happy to be back despite the heat and humidity.”
