With two new age categories and an early surge in team registrations for next year’s event, the fourth edition of the Manchester City Cup Abu Dhabi looks set to break records once again in March (27-28) 2020.
The event, which already holds the crown as being the region’s largest youth football tournament, has attracted increasing numbers of clubs from Australia, Uganda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the UK in recent years, with teams vying not only for silverware, but also a once-in-a-lifetime, all-expenses paid trip to Manchester City’s state-of-the-art Training Academy.
The 2020 edition will again feature five categories for U8 to U16 Boys’ teams, whilst the Girls’ section will be expanded to include U12, U14, and U16 categories. This, coupled with the growing reputation of the event globally, will see over 150 teams descend on Abu Dhabi’s world-renowned Zayed Sports City for a weekend of fun, quality competition.
Head of Football Operations – MENA, Simon Hewitt, told Gulf Youth Sport of his excitement.
‘We’re delighted that the tournament’s popularity and reputation continues to go from strength to strength.
To be able to provide children from all over the globe the opportunity to come to Abu Dhabi and play in the Manchester City Abu Dhabi Cup is amazing for us as a club, and we can’t wait to welcome you all in March next year.’
Registration is now open for all categories. Teams looking to register their interest in the tournament should submit an enquiry form on the official tournament website to receive a free information brochure.
