City Football Club are excited for the launch of the first City Sixes Tournament later this week.
Dubai’s best young footballing stars will be heading to Kings’ School Al Barsha on Friday for a day of competitive six and seven-a-side action.
Six of the finest teams at Under 6 all the way up to Under 18 age level will be taking part, all in the hopes of being crowned the region’s best.
And Club Coordinator Kane Cowburn can’t wait for the tournament to get underway:
“As a club we are extremely excited for the first ever City Sixes,” he said. “To date we have run many big events with our Open Trials, Dubai Showcase, FUNdamental Cup and much more.
“Now felt like the right time to bring the most competitive teams in the region together to compete at a fantastic venue like Kings’ School Al Barsha and break the mould once again by giving teams a different approach to tournament football.”
This “different approach” includes the use of full-size goals on seven-a-size pitches at U14 age level and above to guarantee high scoring and attacking football; and giving captains of U10 squads and above opportunity to wear a PlayerTek vest during matches.
The vest monitors the players athletic output and performance in the games, and there will even be a special ‘City Sixes Pride. Passion. Purpose. Award” for the player who covers the most distance throughout the tournament.
But that’s not all, as Cowburn explained.
He said: “What sets the City Sixes apart is the fact the players firstly get to compete on FIFA standard grass which is rare in the region due to the volume of astro turfs.
“All games from Under 10’s up will be filmed and sent to the coaches to allow them to analyse their team and individual performances post-tournament – and hopefully giving them a chance to relive the winning game.
“There will also be free-flowing water and Gatorade for all those competing, and an area of the venue assigned to each team to brand and make their own hub for the day.”
The City Sixes tournament is this Friday the 15th of March at Kings’ School Al Barsha.
The day kicks off with the U6’s, U8’s and U10’s tournaments between 9am and 12pm, with the U14’s and boys and girls U16’s tournaments following between 1 and 4.
The U12’s and U18’s tournaments bring the day to a close from 5 until 8.
