Cricket players of all ages, abilities and genders can now develop their skills with the expansion of the ICC Academy’s coaching programmes.
With the huge growth of Women’s cricket in recent years interest in the region has also grown. The ICC Academy has seen an increasing interest and enrolment of female players and as a result is refreshing and updating the coaching available to support women and girls players with a heavily subsidised programme.
Will Kitchen, General Manager at the ICC Academy said: “As a centre that works to support cricket globally and locally, we want to ensure that women and girls that want to play cricket know that they can come to ICC Academy and get benefit from everything we have to offer’.
“We’ve thought deeply about how we support the development of women’s cricket, alongside ECB and the great response we received last year, we are expecting even more women and girls to enrol in the programme this time”
ICC Academy have subsidised their women’s programme to help support and improve the growth of the game, the coaching programme is therefore priced at a rate of AED 799 for a ten-week course.
The Academy also supports parents to help their little ones develop themselves with their cricket-themed child development programme, The Babyshop Cricket Cubs. Training with level two and three coaches, children between the ages of three and six years spend time developing their confidence and physical skills in fun-filled cricket-themed sessions.
Recognised as one of the biggest and best cricket coaching programmes in the region, the enormously popular ADIB Warriors programme also begins in September. The programme supports the development of players from age 7 through to adults, as well as specific programmes to support talented players which link into the UAE representative structures.
The programme consists of group training sessions, individual attention and games, based on a player’s age and stage of development, the focus is to help players to learn the skills they need to be successful on the field. At the younger age groups, players are supported to experience all aspects of the game; batting, bowling, fielding, wicket keeping as well as improve their physical skills and fitness.
As players progress of course, the coaching staff enable them to develop and improve their specialities with many opportunities to test themselves in games and cricket festivals.
Based on a multi-faceted assessment, players identified as high potential are invited to join the ADIB Warriors Emerging Player Programme. Players at this stage will be challenged through different games and testing scenarios and will be trained to represent ICC Academy domestically and overseas.
