On This Week in Sports History
The first week of September has seen some of the world's greatest sportsmen and women achieve some incredible successes over the years. Despite barely being old enough to drive a car, these young sports stars took the biggest sports events in the world by storm…

1960 Summer Olympics, Rome:
18-year old Cassius Clay (a.k.a Muhammad Ali) claims an Olympic Gold medal in the Light Heavyweight division. He would go on to become the greatest and most-loved boxer in history.

1972 Summer Olympics, Munich:
22 year-old Mark Spitz wins 7 Olympic gold medals, setting 7 world records in the process. Spitz had also been hotly tipped to achieve a similar feat in the previous Olympics as an 18-year old, but he famously under-performed. He made sure there was no more disappointments four years later, and remains one of the most successful Olympians ever.

1997 U.S Open (Tennis):
16-year old Martina Hingis announces herself to the world, demolishing Venus Williams 6-4, 6-0. Hingis went on to left the U.S Open trophy that year, and has enjoyed a glittering tennis career in both singles and doubles.
