Rashid School for Boys provided a stunning backdrop for the third annual DESS Cross Country event yesterday (Tuesday), with over 400 of the region’s most promising young athletes in attendance.
As the biggest Cross Country event on the DASSA primary school calendar, the runners could be forgiven for being a little nervous. However, the athletes did not disappoint, as they treated spectators to an exciting display of speed, stamina, and determination.
Event organiser, Jason Palmer-Myers, lauded praise on the students for giving it their all and he stressed that the benefits of the event extended beyond the day itself.
“This is the third year DESS have hosted the event using the fantastic grounds at Rashid Secondary School. It was great to see 22 Dubai Primary Schools take part which is more than previous years.
“With individual awards on the day, we also encouraged schools to field runners even if they may not have enough to qualify for the team awards,” he said.
Organiser Palmer-Myers was delighted to welcome such a high number of competitors to this year’s races: “Although it is a competitive event it is great to see over 400 Year 5 and 6 children enjoying running and developing their fitness at the same time!”
Palmer-Myers extended his thanks the event’s sponsors for making the day possible: “I would like to thank SuperSports for providing the chip timing for the event and Up and Running for medical cover. Thanks also go to Go Sport for sponsoring the event along with Urban Energy for providing the medals and Ultimate Athletics the trophies.”
