Two Gulf schools recently took part in the World Schools Netball Cup in the UK, with some incredible performances on a global stage.
Both JESS Dubai (U13, U15, and U17) and Dubai College (U13) took squads to the prestigious event for the third and fourth time respectively.
Held at Loughborough University – widely regarded as the best sporting university in the world – ‘WSG Netball’ also included teams from Scotland, England, Jamaica, and South Africa.
The university is home to Netball Super League side Loughborough Lightning, and both UAE schools enjoyed a masterclass training session with professional Lightning players ahead of the tournament getting underway.
Three days of action then followed the Opening Ceremony, with both schools putting in some incredible performances to showcase the best of UAE netball on the world stage.
JESS Dubai’s U15 team topped Group A with four wins from four and a goal difference of 59. They then progressed to the Cup Quarter Final where they narrowly lost out to Solihull School (England) by 20 goals to 18, and ended up finishing sixth overall following defeat to Gordons School (England).
Their U17 team also enjoyed similar Group Stage success, winning all four of their Group B matches and progressing into the Cup Semi Final. Sedbergh School from England came out on top, however, with JESS eventually finishing the competition in fourth place.
Both JESS’ and Dubai College’s U13 squads enjoyed success at this year’s competition – JESS topped Group B after winning five matches from five and Dubai College finished joint-first in Group A with Solihull School (England).
This then opened up the exciting prospect of a Cup Semi Final Dubai Derby on the world stage, with Dubai College emerging as 18-12 victors over their city rivals.
JESS then went on to take Bronze after defeating Stockport Grammar School (England) in the Third Place Play-off, while Dubai College secured a fantastic victory over Solihull School (England) in the Cup Final.
After losing out to the same team earlier in the Group Stages, DC secured a solid 24-17 victory in a pulsating match which had in-person supporters and live stream viewers alike gripped from the first minute.
