A New Era in Doha: How Middle Eastern Powerhouses Faced the World at the 2026 WSG Olympia
The inaugural World School Games (WSG) Olympia in Doha has officially reset the bar for international school sport. Moving from its traditional home in Dubai to the iconic Aspire Zone, the 2026 Games welcomed over 1,200 athletes from 31 schools across the globe.
While the competition from international heavyweights—particularly Nigeria’s St Saviour’s and Grange School—was relentless, the Middle Eastern schools proved they are force to be reckoned with, securing Overall World Championships in the U13 and U15 categories.
The Aspire Advantage: A Masterclass in Facilities
For the first time, every leap, sprint, and stroke took place under one roof in the world’s largest multipurpose sports dome. The Aspire Dome provided a professional-grade atmosphere that allowed the Gulf’s elite athletes to showcase their versatility across Athletics, Swimming, and Football. The World School Games media team managed these facilities incredibly to capture some amazing footage of the athletes across the weekend.
U11 Category: JESS Arabian Ranches Sweeps the Pool
The U11 category was dominated by a historic performance from St Saviour’s School Ikoyi (Nigeria), who took the Overall Championship. However, the UAE’s JESS Arabian Ranches maintained their status as the region’s premier swimming institution, taking 1st place in the Swimming Winners category against a massive international field.
U13 Category: DIA Emirates Hills Crowned Overall Champions
In a thrilling U13 battle, Dubai International Academy (DIA) Emirates Hills emerged as the Overall World Champions. While Nigeria’s Grange School swept the Athletics and Swimming, DIA’s tactical dominance in the Boys’ Football and consistent high-scoring across all disciplines saw them lift the ultimate trophy.
Further Middle Eastern success came from the hosts, Doha College, who secured the Girls’ Football title in front of a home crowd.
U15 Category: Doha College Takes the World Title
The U15 division was a triumphant moment for Qatar. Doha College utilized their home-turf advantage at the Aspire Zone to be crowned Overall World Champions.
-
Doha College dominated the pool to win the Swimming category.
-
Park House English School (Qatar) kept the football trophy in Doha by winning the Boys’ Football championship.
-
England’s ACS Cobham claimed the Girls’ Football crown, while Grange School (Nigeria) took home the Athletics title.
The “Spirit of the Games”
Beyond the medals, the event was a celebration of culture. From the high-octane Opening Ceremony led by Nova Drums Qatar to the international friendships formed on the Aspire track, the 2026 Games proved that the Middle East is now the heart of the world school sports calendar.
