12-year old Dubai resident Oscar Morgan has returned to the UAE triumphant after claiming the overall male title in the 2017 U14 Australian Children’s Alpine Championships.
Oscar who originates from Australia, competed in the 2-part series of the championship over a four week period from August to September in the ski resorts of Perisher Valley and Falls Creek.
The disciplines contested were Slalom (SL), Giant Slalom(GS) and Ski Cross (SX), with Oscar winning gold in the SL, Silver in GS (just beaten by 4-hundredths of a second), and coming 7th in the SX. Apart from the best alpine skiers in 
Australia contesting for the title, international competitors from the US contributed another level of challenge to the championships.
The Safa Community School student has been strongly supported by his school, teachers and school friends in his quest for this honor. Director of Sport, Kim McMaster said,
"Oscar has put a lot of personal time and effort into his training, these results are the justification of his determination."
In addition to family and school support, Oscar was one of 3 boys recently selected by Ski Dubai as one of their sponsored alpine racers. This new initiative by Ski Dubai under the auspices of Chris David is to encourage and further enhance the skier’s potential by developing a training program and access to the slope that will prepare them for international competition.
Oscar, who undertakes most of his training at Ski Dubai, only started race training and competition at the facility in September 2014. Since then, Oscar has not only won his home nation’s championship, he has also competed 
successfully, and podiumed, in international races in the Middle East, Europe and Canada.
When asked what is his ultimate goal in skiing, Oscar proudly states, "to be able to represent and compete for Australia at the Winter Olympics."
Oscar’s next quest starts in January 2018, where he will compete against the best English skiers in some of the most prestigious UK Alpine races being held in Switzerland, Italy and France. In the meantime, the dedication to training starts all over again.
