Rackets, Results, and Responsibility: UAE Educators Raise Record Funds at Teachers Padel Competition
The courts at Emirates Golf Club were buzzing this past Friday as the UAE’s teaching community traded their lesson plans for padel rackets. The second version of the TWEDEX Teachers Padel Competition saw over 40 educators from across the region battle it out in an afternoon of high-intensity sport, networking, and, most importantly, giving back.
While the competitive spirit was palpable, the ultimate winner of the day was the TWEDEX Foundation. With 100% of the tournament proceeds from entry fees going directly to the Foundation’s UAE projects, the event proved that the UAE sports community is as generous as it is competitive.
The Power of the Foundation
The TWEDEX Foundation was established to bridge the gap between elite sports travel and community development. The funds raised on Friday are already earmarked for further support of the Al Noor Centre, an amazing facility in Dubai supporting People of Determination.
Rhys Gorman, Head of Sports at TWEDEX, spoke about the deeper meaning behind the afternoon:
“The TWEDEX Foundation is the heartbeat of what we do. It’s about taking the energy we see in school sports and directing it toward communities that lack basic infrastructure. Seeing so many teachers turn up today to support our work in places like Sri Lanka and at the Al Noor Training Centre here in Dubai is incredibly rewarding. This tournament wasn’t just about Padel; it was about ensuring every child, regardless of their circumstances, gets the chance to play.”
A Social Masterclass
On the court, the standard was expectedly high, with pairs from Dubai College, JESS, and Dubai International Academy making deep runs into the knockout stages. However, for the attendees, the “social” win was just as significant as the scoreboard.
Ed Mosley, Assistant Head at Dubai College, noted the importance of these gatherings:
“As teachers, we spend most of the week in high-pressure environments, so to get everyone together in such a vibrant, social, and competitive setting was fantastic. Sport has a unique way of breaking down barriers between schools, and doing it for a cause as vital as the TWEDEX Foundation made the afternoon even more special. It’s rare we get to connect like this outside of a DASSA fixture, and the atmosphere was brilliant.”
The Final Standings
After a gruelling group phase and a high-stakes final, the “Top Teacher Pair” trophy was lifted by Dave Wade & Niall Rooney from Dwight School, but the real impact will be felt in the classrooms and playgrounds the Foundation supports.
The Teachers Padel Competition is part of a broader season of elite events managed by TWEDEX, including the recent AUM Kuwait Sports Camp Abu Dhabi, showcasing their commitment to both community charity and world-class sports logistics.
