Dubai’s Lycée Français International Georges Pompidou welcomed an esteemed visitor as the school renamed their swimming pool last week.
The French Minister for Sport, former world champion swimmer Roxana Maracineanu, was given a guided tour of the school facilities by senior students and School Principal Pascal Charlery before watching exhibitions from the swim squad and football squads.
The highlight of the visit was Maracineanu officially unveiling the new plaque at the school’s swimming pool, which has been named in her honour to mark the occasion of her visit.
Also during her time at Lycée Français International Georges Pompidou, Maracineanu was reacquainted with an old friend from the swimming world. Speedo Swim Squads’ Caroline Patel used to swim with and against Maracineanu in junior competitions and the pair were given the chance to catch up during the visit to Dubai.
