British Schools in the Middle East has made the difficult decision to cancel upcoming multi-sport BSME Games.
The events are highly anticipated but the disruptions due to COVID-19 and distance learning mean the Games for this academic year will not go ahead. But there remains hope of some inter-school sport for students, with single sport tournaments potentially taking place.
A statement from BSME detailed the reasons behind the decision, explaining that the safety of students is its number one priority.
“The Executive Committee has taken into consideration the amount of time and effort host schools need to organise these events, training and selection of teams, potential travel restrictions, ensuring social distancing measures, regulatory approvals, parental concerns and several other factors,” it read.
“The safety of our students, staff and parents is our main priority. We are in consultation with our host schools for the standalone events for the remainder of the academic year. We are closely monitoring developments across the region and will inform you of a decision as soon as we are in a position to do so.”
