Exciting news for the next generation of dancers in Dubai – Sharmila Dance has launched a new category specifically aimed at 4, 5 and 6 year olds.
‘Sharmila’s Mini Movers’ will be led by one of Sharmila’s most experienced professional dancers, Clare Cook, who prior to moving to Dubai was a professional dance teacher and choreographer in her native Scotland, where she taught for ten years.
The 45-minute classes, which take place on Saturday afternoons between 3.30pm – 4.15pm at Sharmila's new state-of-the-art studios in Al Barsha, are open to complete beginners, as well as those with previous experience. Speaking exclusively to Gulf Youth Sport, Coach Clare told us more about the new initiative.
“The focus of the ‘Mini Movers’ classes is to introduce young children to the fundamentals of dance in the most fun and vibrant way possible.”
Clare also spoke of her love for teaching the younger generation, and the speed with which even very small children progress.
“I’ve always loved teaching the little ones – they’re so much fun and seeing them catch the bug for dance is amazing. Although the classes are all about having fun, it’s incredible how much information their little minds can absorb in such a short space of time – in just a few weeks their motor skills and spatial awareness will come on leaps and bounds.”
The talented Scot is no stranger to performing herself, having danced alongside popstars Jason DeRulo and Shaggy, Emirati Royal Weddings, as well as a host of high street brands, such as L’Oreal and Max Factor.
“Having the opportunity to perform at big events with global superstars over the past few years with Sharmila Dance has been an amazing experience, and I feel priviliged to be in a position to pass on what I have learned from my teachers to the next generation."
