Dubai College Rugby Tackles the Competition in Singapore

Dubai College Rugby’s team recently became champions at the Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens tournament.

To kick-off the Singapore tour in November, the U-19 boys’ team would visit historic landmarks around the tropical country. These destinations included Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island, and watching a spectacular water-light performance over the city skyline.

Next on the squad’s itinerary was practising at local rugby pitches nestled near a lively green jungle. Regarding tournament play, the prestigious Singapore Cricket Club was hosting Dubai College. The boys began with strong performances against their opponents through group stages. Further leading them to advance to the semi-finals to beat United World Colleges – Malaysia.

After battling their way through a team illness, the boys would face home favourites, Tanglin Trust School (TTS) in the finals. Dubai College became victors with a convincing 38-0 win against TTS, crowning them Singapore Sevens Rugby champions.

Following their victory, Head Coach of Dubai College Rugby, Andrew Jones, credits the team’s success by analysing each game:

“The key to winning the tournament was analysing how we were playing in every game and working out what needed to be focused on in order to produce our best performance. Luckily this worked and we saved our best for last, beating TTS 38-0 in the final.”

Later on the rugby crew explained this opportunity playing in Singapore was a great opportunity to build team comradery.

Furthermore, Dubai College Rugby is looking to carry their momentum into the highly anticipated Dubai Sevens Tournament in early December. Coach Jones praised the recent tour as a positive tune-up opportunity for next month:

“The aim of the tour was to play against different opposition under the pressure of an intense tournament, whilst experiencing a foreign culture during our rest time. Singapore provided the ideal base for this as we were able to play the best schools on the island and were able to experience the intensity of a two day tournament, with knock out stages, making it the perfect dress rehearsal for the forthcoming Dubai 7s.”

A job well done to Dubai College for earning the Singapore Rugby Sevens Championships 2022 title. Best of luck in the upcoming Dubai Sevens Tournament!
