Young Footballers Have a Ball at RGS Guildford Dubai

RGS Guildford Dubai welcomed over 350 players to their awe-inspiring football facilities this weekend as the school hosted the inaugural RGS Dubai Football Cup on Saturday.

32 teams from 14 Dubai academies took to the field throughout the day with U8, U9, U10 and U11 tournaments taking place.

In the U8 tournament Fursan Hispania rounded off some impressive group stage performances with a victory over Dubai Irish with Fursan’s Leonel picking up the day’s MVP award. Empire Sports Academy’s Theo and Aflie won the Golden Glove and Golden Boot prizes on a strong morning for their side.

Fursan Hispania also found success in the U9 age group, capping an excellent first session for the Dubai-based academy with a win over Empire Sports Academy. The individual U9 awards were collected by Hamdan (Fursan Hispania, MVP), Harrison (Empire Sports Academy, Golden Glove) and Roberto (Fursan Hispania, Golden Boot).

As the afternoon session got underway it was time for the U10 and U11 tournaments to kick off and it was once again a success story for Fursan Hispania. Teams across the U10 boys age group played some excellent football throughout the group stage with Fursan Hispania and Empire Sports Academy reaching the final, with Fursan edging Empire out in a tight game to lift the trophy.

Empire’s Benji was rewarded for some excellent play as he picked up the U10 MVP award, while Freddie (Fursan) and Franklin (Dubai Irish) were awarded the Golden Glove and Golden Boot for their efforts throughout the afternoon.

In the U11 category it was once again Fursan Hispania who took home the silverware following some great performances to make it a clean sweep across all four age groups. Empire Sports Academy were beaten finalists again on an impressive day for the club despite the disappointment of losing out in the final.

The individual award winners for the U11 boys were Anas (Fursan Hispania, MVP), Alfie (Empire Sports Academy, Golden Glove) and Jeremy (Arabian Strikers, Golden Boot).

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to RGS Guildford Dubai’s Management Team and Staff, who have been incredibly supportive of the tournament throughout the process. The school covered the costs of the tournament, provided free refreshments for the parents, and organised some fantastic prizes for the players, so everyone has had a wonderful experience.
