Abu Dhabi Students Get Active With Schools Champions

Abu Dhabi Schools Champions, the official inter-school multi-sports competition organized by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, got off to a strong start in the handball, volleyball and athletics competitions last weekend in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

This week, the championship saw lots of great play from students across various sports. One of the week’s athletics highlights was Sunrise English Private School’s Anshif Rayan who recorded a time of 11.77 seconds in the 100 metres.

In the competition held at Al Ain Club for People of Determination, Mohammed Ayub from Al Ain Juniors School and Risaal Riyas from Darul Huda Islamic School recorded the fastest 100m times of 11.77 seconds and 12.16 seconds respectively, while over at Baynounah Educational Complex in Al Dhafra, Abubaker Marghani from Al Shabhana School achieved the fastest time of 11.96 seconds.

In the volleyball Cycle 3 boys’ competitions held in Abu Dhabi, The Model School beat the Baniyas IAT 2-0, while in the Al-Ain competitions, Al-Andalus team won its two matches against Our Own English High School and Al Ain Juniors School with two 2-1 wins. Also in Al Ain, Our Own English High School won 2-1 against Al Ain Juniors School.

In the handball Cycle 2 competitions, Al Taawun School team defeated the Al Qimma school team 10-3. In the Cycle 3 competitions, Abu Dhabi Indian School team defeated Horizon Private School 4-3.

Abu Dhabi Schools Champions is also a talent discovery platform and this weekend’s strong results follow last week’s announcement that 10 top performing students participating in the Championship were scouted by professional Abu Dhabi clubs.

The fourth week competitions will take place this weekend at Baniyas Sports and Cultural Club and Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi and At Al Ain Football School Pitches and Al Ain Club for People of Determination.
