Real Madrid legend and LaLiga Global Ambassador Fernando Morientes, winner of three Champion League titles, paid a surprise visit yesterday to LaLiga Academy UAE’s training grounds in Abu Dhabi.
Fernando Morientes was part of a LaLiga delegation headed by Fernando Sanz, LaLiga General Director in MENA, Head of International Sports Projects and LaLiga Global Ambassador. They were welcomed by over 100 budding LaLiga Academy footballers and their parents.
Morientes and Sanz participated in drills and practice matches with the youth, cheering them on, passing on tips and encouraging them during their first few days at the Academy. The Real Madrid legend was impressed with the facilities and expressed his enthusiasm for the Academy: “LaLiga Academy is unique because it’s the first in the world, bringing together the best of Spanish football training methods, which are delivered by LaLiga coaches to the same levels as those being taught at LaLiga youth clubs in Spain.”
Commenting on the Academy’s first season kick off, Fernando Sanz said: “We knew there was going to be a lot of interest in the first LaLiga Academy but the response has been overwhelming. At LaLiga Academy, the only scouting academy in the region, young footballers have a real opportunity to play professionally with LaLiga clubs after being developed to the highest standards by a team of all-Spanish UEFA Pro-certified coaches, handpicked from the best LaLiga clubs.”
