Dubai residents are in for a family-fun, sporting spectacular as Dubai Sports City opens its doors to the public in order to showcase the very best of its sporting activities on offer to the community.

The Dubai Sports City 2017 Open Day will be held at The Dome and ICC Academy, which is located inside Dubai Sports City’s Sports Village and will take place this Saturday, 9thSeptember between 09:00am and 12:30pm.

Those attending will have the chance to try their hand at a wide array of coaching programmes, sports and entertainment activities – all located within Dubai Sports City. The activities will include lessons from the ICC Academy’s world-class cricket coaching team, football trials from the Spanish Soccer School, golf taster sessions from The Els Club and Butch Harmon School of Golf as well as demonstrations and activities from the newly formed Dubai Sports City Eagles rugby team. Participants will also get to experience the high-quality indoor and outdoor facilities that make up the expansive Sports Village campus.

Entry to the family fun-day out will be free of charge and will allow parents and children alike to take part in lots of competitions, try their hand at the brand new fitness zone with complementary fitness classes and activities for all the family, as well as sample some delicious dishes from a range of its premium food and beverage outlets.

Dubai Sports City president Khalid Al Zaroon said: “The Dubai Sports City open day is one of the highlights on our extensive events calendar, it’s a great opportunity for the whole community to get together and try their hand at wide range of activities that we have here on offer at Dubai Sports City.

“Our open day is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to come and try out a new sport or activity that they may have not tried before and enjoy it for many years to come! The open day also allows us to demonstrate and emphasise the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle, which we believe is a way of life – sport really has a unique way of bringing people together.”

“Those attending will also have the chance to take part in competitions, activities and sample some of the delicious food we have on site, so whether you are a sporting fanatic, looking to get fit with the family or try out a new activity there’s something for you. We look forward to welcoming everyone on 9th September.”

Held in the fully air-conditioned, indoor Dome and ICC Academy, the new season launch will be attended by coaches from the ICC Academy and Spanish Soccer School as well as golf pros from the Els Club and Butch Harmon School of Golf.

Coaches will be available throughout the day to interact with the whole family and give them insights on their favourite sport, providing enough information to both children and parents to decide which sport best suits them. Children who then sign up for an academy of their choice will receive special discounts for their registration on the day.

In addition to the introductory taster sessions and activities on offer, the open day provides children and parents the chance to tour the outstanding facilities on the Sports Village campus. These include tennis, basketball, netball and rugby alongside the well-established football, golf and cricket facilities.

Following the open day and as part of the ICC Academy’s drive to better support UAE-based talent, for the first time open trials will be held at the Academy on the 9thof September from 2pm.  The trials are open to boys aged 12 to 18 from across the UAE and follow on from internal trials, which will be held the week before.

From the trials, up to 12 talented players with ‘high-potential’ will be selected by the ICC Academy coaching staff and awarded a fully-funded annual scholarship into the ICC Academy Warriors Emerging Players Programme.
