Dubai’s Desert Rangers U14’s got 2017 off to a perfect start as they were crowned champions of the Winter Cup on Friday (6th January).
The post-holiday mini-tournament for under 14’s squads included United Sports Academy from Al Ain, Paris Saint-Germain Academy and Fins FC, as well as the Desert Rangers squad.
The tournament was a great warm up for the second half of the league season and allowed the tea
ms to regain some much needed match sharpness after a few weeks away from the football pitch.
Desert Rangers coach John Adetiba was impressed with the high standard on show from all teams. He was especially pleased with the high-tempo nature of the matches throughout the day.
“It was an extremely competitive tournament with all the boys playing good quality, competitive football.”
Desert Rangers were the eventual victors of the trophy after a hard-fought round of matches. John said: “It was a great start to the season after they had finished 2016 by becoming under 14 champions in the Dubai Sports City Junior League (Division B).”
Adetiba was full of praise for his young side, with many of them in their first season of 11-a-side football this year.
"I continue to be extremely proud of the boys in our under 14 squad. Most of the players are 12 years old so this season was likely to be tough for them playing under 14 games for the first time.
“They’ve been fearless and hardworking so far – and are having fun. Hopefully they will continue to grow as a team during the second part of the 2016/2017 season."
A huge thanks to John and all at Desert Rangers for their contribution and images.
