Fun Fact Friday - Serena Williams

American professional and talented tennis player Serena Williams, ranked No.1 by the Women’s Tennis Association, started her tennis career before she even started attending pre-school.

With a determined father and coach, at the age of three, Serena was on a strict coaching schedule, practicing for two hours every single day at a tennis court near their previous home in Compton, California.

Soon after, the now tennis sensation, quickly drew national attention. By the time she was 9 years old, Serena and her older sister Venus, now a 7-time grand slam champion, became the most talked about tennis talents in the US.

In 1991, at the young age of 10, she had scored 46-3 on the United States Tennis Association Junior Tour and ranked first in the 10-and-under division.

By the time she was 14 years-old, she became a professional tennis player. Starting from a 304 rank, she impressively moved her way up to top 100, beating world No.7 and world No.4, before losing the semi-finals to world no.5.

In 1998, when she was 17 years old, her tennis career zoomed to the top as she got a victory at the mixed doubles titles at Wimbledon and the US open. She then went on to twin two more doubles titles alongside her sister, and managed to rank 20th at the end of the year.

This, was just the beginning of Serena’s impressive tennis career. To this day, she is the most top-ranked female tennis players in the world.
