FCBEscola Dubai met Desert Rangers in the Jebel Ali Youth League U9 Division on Saturday morning in a game filled with goals at the Centre of Excellence.

Desert Rangers eventually ran out 4-2 winners in an entertaining game which either side could have won. FCBEscola goal scorer Omar says that his team improved as the game went on but he believes they could have been better in the first half.

“In the second half we were playing well but in the first half we weren’t fighting for the ball - so we have to improve on that. They were putting us under pressure.”

At half time it was clear that Desert Rangers were pressing FCBEscola back into their own half - as a result of this Omar says the team were told to take a more direct approach: “Our coach said that whenever they press we should try a long ball to a midfielder or striker.”

Despite the result, Omar was pleased with his own performance and was especially happy to have scored his side’s second goal after a neat finish from close range: “Sam played a through ball to me, I had to control it and take it away from the defender and shoot.”

Omar was delighted with his goal, saying that it felt “awesome” when the ball hit the back of the net.

The win for Desert Rangers maintains their 100% record in the JAYL this season. They sit proudly at the top of the league with 18 points after six games and have a +19 goal difference!
