IJF 4 - 1 FC DUBAI
It’s Just Football u11 striker Arjun may be one of the smallest players on the team, but that didn’t stop him from smashing home a first half hat-trick as he helped his side to a 4-1 victory over FC Dubai.
Barely five minutes had been played when the diminutive striker made his mark on the game; a speculative long-range shot looping up and over the FC goalkeeper.
Seven minutes later the xx doubled the lead – tapping home after great work on the left wing by Mohamed Kawatin.
Victory was all but sealed with seven minutes of the first half remaining. A quick throw on the left caught the FC defence off guard and gave Arjun a one-on-one opportunity. The young striker still had a lot to do, but showed great composure to calmly stroke the ball through the on-rushing goalkeeper’s legs.
That goal acted as a wake-up call for FC Dubai, who rallied tremendously in the five minutes leading up to half-time.
A tremendous goal-kick allowed striker Walid in behind the IJF defence, but his shot lacked the pace to find the net.
The resulting corner led to a goal-mouth scramble, and saw Kawatin acrobatically clearing a goal-bound volley off his line.
The relentless pressure finally led to a break-through on the stroke of half-time. Two shots were saved well by the IJF goalkeeper, but X latched onto the loose ball and fired home emphatically from 12 yards.
For a punch-drunk IJF side, the half-time whistle brought much needed relief.
FC came out swinging in the second-half – Walid showing close control before cutting inside and unleashing a ferocious strike, which IJF goalkeeper tipped expertly onto the bar.
Had that strike hit the back of the net the final outcome could have been different, but it wasn’t to be for the men in white, as IJF sealed the three points with a deflected shot from x from 14 yards.
When asked about his hat-trick, Arjun was quick to praise his team-mates.
“It feels great obviously, but it was a team-effort. This guy (Mohamed Kawatin) is amazing to play with. He’s like a mix between Gareth Bale and Ronaldo.”
The win lifts IJF to 4th position in the table, and left Arjun in no doubt about his team’s hopes for the rest of the season
“We’re here to win.”
